Croquet
Stoneridge/Sedgefield Swim and Racquet Club, Inc.
The S/SSRC boasts a championship quality croquet lawn. Through the investment of both finances and knowledge by  neighborhood residents and croquet enthusiasts, the court was completed in 1990. The croquet lawn is available year-round and the club sponsors clinics and championship tournaments throughout the year. One may even learn croquet techniques from members who are recent state and national champions.

                                 2009 S/SSRC Member Accomplishments:

Paul Scott of Stoneridge Croquet won his third  National Singles Championship in Palm Springs, California. He made it  three National Championships in a row for Stoneridge players. Paul won  in 2007, and Jeff Soo won last year. Paul and Jeff have a remarkable  record at the Nationals this decade. Jeff has won 4 National Singles  Championships; thus, between them, Paul and Jeff have won 7 of the last 10 Nationals. Together, they have dominated doubles to a similar  or greater extent.

Following Stoneridge tradition, the National Champ was unable to win  the club championship. Jeff beat Paul to win the Stoneridge  Club Championship. Stoneridge players have won the Nationals 8 times  altogether. (Mack Penwell took the National title in 1993.) Only once  has the National Champ also won the club tournament.

Eileen Soo, Frank Thompson, Tommy Harrington and Bob Roth also  represented Stoneridge at the Nationals, each winning a fair share of  games.

The Holy Grail of croquet in the US has long been to defeat Great  Britain, which has dominated world croquet for decades. The US had  never beaten the Brits in a major competition played under  international rules. A couple of weeks ago, the US team defeated GB in  the Solomon Trophy, winning the annual competition for the first time.  Stoneridge's (Chapel Hill) Jeff Soo was US Team Captain and scored the  winning point.  North Carolinian Danny Huneycutt (Lexington) stood out  for his great shooting and winning record.

Congratulations to Jeff and the US Team
